Q: Who is eligible to participate in the study?

A: Children ages 9-17 who are blind, low vision or legally blind with corrected vision are eligible to participate in the study. Eligible children’s parent/guardian/caregiver must enroll with their child. We encourage individuals with multiple disabilities and their parents to participate.

Q: What if I have two or more children who are eligible for the study? Can they each participate?

A: Yes, each child can participate in the study and receive compensation. The parent will have to complete the same surveys for each child.

Q: Do I need to come in-person for the study?
-
A: No, the study is completed fully online through the Zoom platform. Any additional items needed for participation in the study will be shipped directly to your provided address.

Q: Do I need to complete the whole session at once?
-
A: Although it is preferred to complete the session in the designated 3-to-4-hour window of time, we understand that children and parents may not be able to fit that into their busy schedules. We can be flexible with scheduling to best suit the needs of our families.

Q: What is the compensation for the study?
-
A: Families will receive $150 in Target or Amazon gift cards upon the completion of the study session via email. Families can earn an additional $100 if they complete the activity tracking portion of the study. Therefore, if the families participate in all portions of the study, they can earn up to $250.

Q: Are we able to get updates about the project and our results?
-
A: We are not able to share your results with you directly, as your data is deidentified after your session to protect your confidentiality. We do give you an opportunity in the study to request updates on the study and receive other communications regarding the project and others like it.

Q: What accommodations are there for me to participate in the study?
-
A: The child’s portion of the survey is conducted completely verbally. Braille copies of the surveys for braille using parents can be sent to the family, upon request. Hearing impaired individuals can request --- hand signing. Spanish translators can be made available, as well. Please note that these accommodations may impact the timing of session scheduling.

Q: What is the activity portion of the study?
-
A: The activity portion of the study involves your child wearing an activity sensor, similar to a smart watch. It will be worn every day for 14 days, outside of bathing.
